What got me started with these income streams in the first place, was the lack of capital outlay required before I could start earning.
Not to mention the additional lack of “technical expertise” required.
You don’t need to subscribe to a single: “for the low price of $$$, you can sign up today, and earn forever”.
You can literally get started with any of these income options right now, for free! And with absolutely no prior experience or knowledge either. I know, I’ve done it.
Sure, there are some add-ons you could spend on to streamline the process and make your life a bit easier, but paid additionals are absolutely not necessary to get earning with any of these options.
2. Make It Once And Earn Forever
Low maintenance income is unfortunately still work, so there is always a little effort required to produce the thing that’s going to make you money.
But once they’re going, the income can keep flowing with very minimal upkeep necessary.

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is Amazon’s self-publishing platform. It allows authors to publish books digitally and make them available to millions of readers.
Now, before you immediately skip to the next section after seeing the term “author”, allow me to reassure you:
I am no author.
In fact, I’m struggling to even write this blog as we speak (why I am writing blogs in the first place is a story for another day).
But you do not actually need to be any good at writing to become a published author. Crazy right?
Sudoku puzzles, joke books, fact books, even wordless books (like journals) and generate tons of cash on KDP.
So don’t let the “author” thing scare you off.
Of course, if you are a gifted writer, there is tons to be made from long content books. And without the hassle of needing to find a publisher!
… But I’ll be sticking with the simple stuff for now.
And you literally never had to see or touch the book to earn from it.
KDP allows you to keep complete control over your content and pricing while it handles all of the production for you!
And, once your book is published, it has the potential to generate 35% to 70% of the book’s sale price, with minimal ongoing effort.

2. A Design Tool
For designing your book cover and interiors, you’re going to need some sort of design tool.
Canva is the standout choice here, because it’s just so easy to use, (my grandma could do it). And the free version offers amazing capabilities that are plenty for getting started.
3. Leverage ChatGPT for Assistance
If you are anything like me, you’ll appreciate a little extra help from tools like ChatGPT in your writing process. From content ideation, outlining your book and suggesting keyword optimised titles, a little AI assistance goes a long way.
(As of the date of this blog, KDP does allow AI-assisted content, but always be sure to confirm with their Guidelines before publishing.)

Digital products are intangible assets that can be sold and distributed online.
Unlike physical goods, they can be delivered instantly, without having to deal the logistical nightmare of physical stock.
I love digital products for passive income, because they’re so replicable and scalable.
Once created, they can continue to sell without significant ongoing effort. And expanding your product range is as easy as adapting something you’ve already made.

1. Tools to Design Your Digital Products
Creating digital products like templates, eBooks, and calculators will require some free software. Again, see my girl Canva for visually appealing designs and find Google Sheets for spreadsheet type products.
But the exact software you’ll need will vary vastly based on your specific products – I don’t tend to dabble with things like photography, music, podcasting or other “artistically skilled” products.
2. Choose a Marketplace to Sell Your Products
And of course you’ll need somewhere to sell what you’ve created.
Established online marketplaces like Etsy are great to start out, and free to sign up with. However, your choice of marketplace will again depend on exactly what you’re selling. This article is pretty handy for seeing where to sell different products.
Personally, I prefer selling independently through my own websites, as all profits are entirely my own, and I have greater control over my products. But picking this route does require a bit more effort to reach an audience, so go with what works best for you.
3. AI Assistance
Again, ChatGPT is a fantastic aid for brainstorming and generating ideas for your digital products.
Whether you need help with topics, themes, or formats, it can streamline your creative process and provide valuable insights.
Affiliate Marketing (Without Needing a Massive Audience)
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy. Individuals promote products or services for a company and earn a commission for each sale, made through a unique referral link.
This model allows anyone to monetize their online (or in person) presence without the need for inventory or product creation.
The basic principle is simple: share a product that you believe in, provide someone with your affiliate link, and if they make a purchase through that link, you earn a percentage of the sale.

Are there any tools, software programmes, products, anything that you know and love, that you think others might too?
Tons of companies offer affiliate programs, so it might be worth checking whether you could earn commision by promoting something that you’re already using.
Companies benefit from not having to pay upfront for marketing, making it entirely worth it for them to offer you a commision.
Amazon is a giant in this game. You can affiliate with pretty much any product on their stock list – which is obviously ginormous!
If you’re into something like photography, you could earn commission from every piece of tech that you use and recommend from Amazon. But the options are just about limitless!
I tend to focus on companies that offer higher ticket affiliate programs. Because it takes far less success to make a decent profit, compared to when trying to operate at mass for smaller commissioned options.
– It is worth noting that you do actually need to use the product that you’re endorsing. So choose something that you truly love and believe in.
2. Share Your Affiliate Links
Let’s get one thing straight:
You do not need a massive following to profit from affiliate marketing.
You don’t need to be an influencer, or have a Youtube channel.
As mentioned, a few cleverly calculated high-paying programmes only take a few turnovers for a nice profit – this can even be done with one-on-one conversations.
A Note On Sales and Advertising
If you are like me, thinking “ugh, I cringe at the thought of ever having to advertise something”, then we can be friends.
I can’t stand when people are “salesy” – nor would I ever recommend it to anyone.
Humans simply do not respond well when feeling pressured. And you can always tell when someone is trying to convince you to buy something, so that they can make a buck.
What people do however respond well to, are genuinely useful recommendations that will provide them with a valuable benefit.
There are ways of going about this in a natural and genuine manner that is beneficial to both parties.
So do not let the thought of ever being a sales person deter you from making some passive income from affiliate marketing. You can do so without ever being salesy!
